Communiqué by the Ministry of Foreign Affaire of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

Statements of British Prime Minister Infringes Basic Principles of International Law

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela formally rejected the recent statements of British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, because they “clearly infringe the basic principles of International Law.”

The communiqué addressed by the person in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pavel Rondón, to British Ambassador in Venezuela, Donald Alexander Lamond, refers to “the pitiful statements delivered by Prime Minister, Anthony Blair, in the British Parliament against the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, the Venezuelan State and the Venezuelan people.”

After warning about “the grave distortion” perceived in the British Prime Minister statement “when he confuses the international community rules with the principles and rules of International Law,” the Venezuelan government adds that “this kind of confusion has facilitated, allowed and led to bigger atrocities against the peoples of the world.”

We must remember that among the basics of International Law British Prime Minister seems to be unaware of are “the recognition of the legal equality of States, the respect to sovereign, non-intervention and self-determination principles of the peoples.”

Communiqué

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela greets the Embassy of the United Kingdom in order to refer to the pitiful statements delivered by Prime Minister, Antony Blair, in the British Parliament, against the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, the Venezuelan State and the Venezuelan people.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the aforementioned statements of Mr. Antony Blair, because they clearly violate the basic principles of international law. Our government is not unaware of the grave distortion perceived in the British Prime Minister statement when he confuses the international community rules with the principles and rules of International Law, foundation for the development of friendship relations among the nations of the world and whose absolute respect is the base for supporting peace and international safety. This kind of confusion has facilitated, allowed and led to bigger atrocities against the peoples of the world.

In this sense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds Prime Minister Blair that among the basics he seems to be unaware of are the recognition of the legal equality of States, the respect to sovereign, non-intervention and self-determination principles of the peoples.

The ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela makes this occasion suitable for reminding the Embassy of the United Kingdom the

El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela hace propicia la ocasión de reiterar a la embajada del Reino Unido e Irlanda del Norte, las seguridades de su consideración.
